I'm Alive

Yes... I'm still alive and maintaining this site. As this blog's still experimental I haven't really figured out when to write in it. I figure at least when something major happens.

Well, in recent weeks nothing major has happened.. I'm spending most of my time developing a new website for an open source project. Which, if things go according to plan, will be launched sometime in early-May. I'll post a blog entry or more when it's up.. 'cause I'm really excited about it.

After that site is up and running, I'm going to put some time into developing this one. Major sections like "Music", seriously need my attention. So I have some pretty major changes and stuff to add.. Which I hope will end up being pretty cool. :-)

I've recently bought a a keyboard and I'm attempting to learn to play it.. So in time, I might have something to post here of my own.

Just for fun, here's the newest songs I love (in no particular order):
Seether (Featuring Amy Lee) -- Broken (From "The Punisher Soundtrack")
Pacifier -- Everything (From "Pacifier"/"Swimfan Soundtrack")
Godsmack -- Running Blind (From "The Other Side")
Shinedown -- 45 (From "Leave a Whisper")

More Website Updates...

Well, I'm finally back to poking around this site again. Have a few ideas to put into place now that my other projects have settled down.

I didn't blog about it when it launched, but Mozilla Update did finally launch. If you're using a Mozilla product, particularly Firefox, head over to http://update.mozilla.org. The newest source for add-ons to your Mozilla software. :-)

Anyways, I'll be poking around and breaking things the next several days, and probably longer.

New Look

More design changes... I got bored today.. Tired of working on the same stuff, I realized that more or less, i've been focusing on the same thing every day, and that its not really a good thing. So I decided today to take a day off of that project and do something else.. The new look of this site is the result of that. It's not done, and probably won't be for awhile. I never quite know what to do with this site, except poke at it at random. So here's its current state. If anybody has any suggestions, let me know.

New Style, again.

Alright, I got sick of the decaying content and poor impersonal style of the site. So, I dropped everything from this host and moved it all over to http://not.psychoticwolf.net/. That host is still up with the site as it was for now, but it'll be going away soon. :-) Comments on the new site are welcome.

Who is Wolf?

Added the "Me" page now. which is the first time in quite awhile that there's been information on this site about me.. the previous site just had a picture and a placeholder for months. doh. Its surprisingly long, I just kinda got on a roll when writing it, so check it out and let me know what you think. :-)

Galleries have returned...

Well, the last bit of content from not.psychoticwolf.net has made it back here.. the gallery is back. Its currently running Album.pl 6.5. as opposed to the custom scripts that the old site used. Though i'm not sure i'm entirely happy with album.pl, while its simple and easy to use, its a little rough around the edges, particularly when trying to customize its styles to fit with the rest of the site, I've gotten the style close to right, which'll work for now.
I'm going to test a couple of other galleries and see if they work better. Also, as all the content from not.psychoticwolf.net is here now, that site will be shut down in the next day or so, to be stored on the CD-R of archived time.

Other New Stuff...

So, what else is new that I haven't blogged about...

I've *finally* added the music section to my website. Its nothing spectacular, but I've been meaning to add it for months, if not over a year. Its a combination of a list of artists that I like that came to mind while writing plus the music category blog posts. Which I think serves as a good foundation for the section, and its existance adds a little more of me into the site.

Oh yeah, and finally Deer Park 1.1 Alpha 1 (or Firefox 1.1 Developer Preview Release Alpha 1) was released. I'm personally hoping the agressive scheduling for Firefox 1.1 final doesn't slip, but this is Mozilla, so, the chances of that happening, aren't high, but I can dream.

This quote from the new irc.mozilla.org quote database fits. :-)

Enough...

Die Mozilla.org-like blue header blob, and not entirely realistic above-the-cloud footer..

Greetings 10 minute hack that's more personal than anything i've had up here in the last year...

Also, jumbled the blogroll a bit..

More soon, including more to the hardware death story...
In short, if you can't reach this site, there's a good chance its server is down. I'll get it back up when I walk past it again. ;-)

Ah... normalcy perhaps?

Well, the site should be back to being normal now. The new hardware for the server is installed and things are looking good. :-)

So, last I mentioned the situation it was a dying video card fan. (this after the dead PSU fan.) Well, as it turns out, the dead PSU fan had a bit of collateral damage. That damage being its motherboard. Some portion of the chipset on the board is unhappy now. (which advertises itself in the form of the PCI network card disconnecting, USB bus problems, and random crashing on everything from video to file copies.) Of course, this being a Dual P3-1ghz system, replacing the motherboard alone isn't exactly an option.. so..
Tazdevil got the following new hardware... :-)
Abit NF8-V Pro (Socket 754/nVidia nForce 3 250gb chipset motherboard, w/ Gigabit Ethernet and Audio OnBoard)
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2.4ghz, Socket 754)
1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (DDR400)
nVidia GeForce FX 5500 (AGP 8x) - Dual-Display + TV Out. (to replace the card with the dead fan)
Antec Smartpower 350w ATX PSU (m/n: SL350) (replace the dead PSU)

Some of the old hardware will go to mysticowl to beef up that system. (should make Suse 9.3 happier too.)

The full specifications of both machines as it stands now are updated on the Network page.

Update...

Finally updated the Firebot page with details about the combined bot, that's been running since early March.
Also upgraded mysticowl with the spare parts left over from tazdevil's upgrade, and updated the Network page to reflect that.

Nothing else to say for now...

New Gallery

I finally did something about the neglected gallery on the site. :-) The old one, album.pl, while nice, and better than what was on the site before that, didn't quite serve my needs and integrate that nicely into the site, which discouraged me from actually updating and adding new photos to it.
So I've changed from it, to Gallery2, which is working alot better and I really liike how well its fitting in. (Thanks to Dria, who's new gallery I used as a bit of inspiration.)

Of course, to prove i'm going to actually add new stuff to it, I have already. I've added both, "King's Pinnacle @ Crowders Mountain", which are the photos from my last Crowders Mountain Hike, and "Fun Shots from 2003", which are older shots I uncovered while digging to find the original images of what was posted to import into the new gallery.

New Look...

Earlier this week, I pushed the new design for the website. I think it feels much warmer and less plain than the previous very red, white and blue, not intended to be so patriotic design. I also shuffled some of the content around, moving things that didn't belong as a main section (network) into projects.

New Photos in the Gallery

OK. So, I've been thinking about doing this for weeks and weeks, (maybe months even...), I (finally) posted 5 new albums in the gallery.
2 of them are from 2005, Full Moon (which is the full set of images that I blogged about in Exploring the Night Sky, some time ago) and Lake Trail @ Crowders Mountain, which is from my first visit, before the Pinnacle hike.

The remaining 3 are from this year, i'll just list them here, since they've got a more detailed descriptiion on the album pages.
- Pond @ UNC Charlotte
- Storm Clouds
- UNCC Random / UNCC @ Night
